The website of the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), headed by global Muslim Brotherhood leader Sheikh Youssef Qaradawi, has announced the details of twenty-seven proposals which appear intended as a major push to institutionalize Qaradawi’s influence in the Muslim World. The proposals were announced in connection with the recent “Imam Qaradawi Forum” held in Doha last month and range from “Establishing the Al-Qaradawi Endowed Chair in Contemporary Islamic Studies at one of the ancient universities in Europe or the United States” to “Broadcasting various programs aiming at presenting the works of Sheikh Al-Qaradawi for various ages and educational levels among Muslims.” If carried to completion, these proposals would likely cement Qaradawi’s role as the most preeminent figure in the Muslim Brotherhood network.
