Muslim American Society Issues Statement On Sarah Palin

The Muslim American Society, a part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood, has issued a statement about Republican Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin and what the statement calls her “long ties” to the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP). According to the statement:

MAS Freedom expressed concerns today about reports that Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska, the Republican Vice Presidential nominee, has had long ties to the Alaskan Independence Party (AIP), the third largest political party in Alaska and an advocate to a referendum that would give Alaska residents a political option to revoke Alaska’s status as a U.S. state. The AIP vigorously supports Alaskan home rule and the abolition of gun control regulations, and is thought by many to be a haven for separatists in the state. MAS Freedom will continue to investigate these allegations and report on this topic. MAS Freedom Executive Director Mahdi Bray stated, “These allegations of Governor Palin’s ties to a radical-separatist Alaskan political party raise serious doubts about her real allegiance to the United States as a whole, and her suitability in being considered for national political leadership

U.S. media has widely reported that Governor Palin spoke by video conference to a 2006 AIP convention and that her husband had been registered in the past as a party member.

The MAS was established in 1993 by leaders of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and a Chicago Tribune investigation has revealed it’s close ties to the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. In recent years, the MAS has been highly active in electoral politics as well as frequently joining in coalitions with far-left groups, particularly with International ANSWER founded by former Attorney General Ramsey Clark. The MAS has local chapters across the United States.
