Pakistani media is reporting on comments by Bosnian Grand Mufti Mustafa Ceric in which he was said to have urged the Muslim Ummah to conquer the world through Halal [food certified by Islam]movement. According to a report in the Pakistan Daily Mail newspaper:

KARACHI – The Grand Mufti of Bosnia Herzegovina, Dr Mustafa Ceric urged the Muslim Ummah to conquer the world through Halal movement as Halal means pure and hygiene and non-Muslim world has no hesitation to accept it. Addressing a reception hosted by Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) held in his honour and other delegates of Global Halal Congress, Dr Ceric said that Halal movement has the strength to lead Muslims to rule the global economy as the food and other services are the basic need of every human being, adding that people of his country love Pakistan and hold this in a high esteem on its role during ethnic cleansing and insurgency. Their love for Pakistan is reflected in the fact that mosques in Bosnia and Herzegovina made collections as a relief fund for the flood hit people in Pakistan. The amount collected was the biggest in the history of Bosnia he disclosed. The Grand Mufti who declined to reveal the collection said that it was submitted to the authorities when he arrived to Pakistan. Elaborating his point of view regarding potential of global Halal market, the grand mufti said that since food is the basic need of every human being the Muslim Ummah should focus on developing strong base of food production which he said would left other technologies used by the West as a source of economic prosperity. Commenting on the state of Muslim Ummah, the Grand Mufti remarked that out of the total refugees in the world over 70 per cent are Muslims rendered shelter less due to disturbances sparked in their homelands yet the irony is that the Muslims are labeled as the terrorists. Dr Ceric further said that Muslims of the world love each other which is the major cause of unity and strength among themselves. He said that Pakistan could become a Halal hub in the region and has the potential to earn billions of dollars through exports of Halal products like Malaysia. He pointed that Iran and Turkey are also emerging on world Halal economy. Assistant Secretary General, ICCI, Attiya Nawazish Ali said in his welcome address that it’s a good omen that Muslim countries have realized the importance of Halal economy. She pointed that OIC (Organization of Islamic Countries) and ICCI are also making efforts to boost Halal economy and conducting workshops and seminars on Halal standardization. Attiay also presented ICCI’s plaque to the Grand Mufti and appreciated the delegates’ participation in the congress.

Considered by some to be a leading “liberal” Islamic leader, Mustafa Ceric is tied to the global Muslim Brotherhood through his membership in the European Council for Fatwa and Research (ECFR), headed by Brotherhood leader Youssef Qaradawi and by his participation in the U.K.-based “Radical Middle Way” consisting of a wide range of associated scholars representing the global Muslim Brotherhood. Several earlier posts have discussed Dr. Ceric’s increasing visibility and importance within the global Muslim Brotherhood, noting that Ceric sees himself as a possible future leader of a “European Islam.” Dr. Ceric recently compared the Iranian Revolution with the French Revolution and Iranian media reported that Dr. Ceric recently told former Iranian President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani in a meeting that he considers Iran a “good friend” of his country.” A post from October 2009 discussed his visit to the International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT), an important part of the U.S. and global Muslim Brotherhood.
