The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood has written an editorial in support of new mosque construction in the U.S. and Europe referring specifically to the planned new mosques in New York, on Staten Island and close to the site of the World Trade Center attacks. The editorial is titled “Islamophobia reaches its peak with protests against mosque construction” and begins as follows:

Recent protests calling to stop the construction of a large mosque on a quiet residential street in Brooklyn, other parts in the US and Europe have been faced by much controversy laced with ignorance and racism. The allegation that cultural diversity is real and includes very aggressive and malicious beliefs that can neither be accommodated nor celebrated demonstrate the intolerance to not only Islam, Muslims and the Muslim Brotherhood but to anything remotely different to the American and West’s belief. Claims such as the Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) was a warlord is not only blasphemous but reveals the extent of ignorance especially as Islam in Arabic means “Submission”. Assertations that Islam is based on terrorism and flourished through aggression indicate the narrow-mindedness and real intent on defaming the peaceful religion.

As discussed in an earlier post, the proposed Staten Island mosque is sponsored by the Muslim American Society (MAS) which was identified in a Hudson Institute report as a part of the U.S. Muslim Brotherhood and closely tied to the Egyptian organization.

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood can be considered to be the “mother” organization of what is referred to in these pages as the Global Muslim Brotherhood which developed as Muslim Brothers fleeing Egypt settled in Europe and the United States, as well as other places, throughout the years. The Egyptian Brotherhood is increasingly referring to any criticism of the Muslim Brotherhood as “islamophobia” and has even coined a new term, “Ikhwanophobia” to describe criticism of itself.
