The World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) is organizing more than 100 summer camps throughout the world to inculcate social, cultural and family values in the minds of young men and women. “Thousands of people will participate in the organization’s programs,” said Saleh Al-Wohaibi, secretary-general of WAMY, following a meeting with the Maldivian Ambassador Hussein Shihab at the WAMY headquarters in Riyadh. Al-Wohaibi pointed out that WAMY offices abroad are organizing the camps. “We are trying to make use of the long summer holidays to help these young men and women,” Al-Wohaibi said, adding that the programs have been designed for three to 14 days depending on the needs of the youth in each country. He said non-Muslims would also be accommodated, since WAMY is committed to peaceful coexistence with other communities. It has just concluded camps in Kuala Lumpur and Cairo where more than 400 youths successfully completed a program designed for Arabic-speaking youths in both countries.

Speaking about his meeting with the Maldivian envoy, Al-Wohaibi said the Maldives is an area, which WAMY would like to target to help improve the life of younf people. “We will try to mobilize support from nongovernmental organizations from the region to cooperate with youth groups in the country to build a bridge of understanding with them,” he said.
