Muslim Brotherhood Leader Claims Israel And US Working To “Thwart” Egyptian Revolution

The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood website has reported on comments by Muslim Brotherhood leader Kemal Helbawy (aka Helbawi, El-Helbawi) in which he claims that Israeli and US intelligence are working together thwart the revolution in Egypt by fomenting sectarian strife. According to the report:

Dr. Kamal Helbawy, MB figure, suggested that Israeli and US intelligence are working hard to thwart the January 25 Revolution, which they perceive as a threat to their interests in the region. Dr. Helbawy demanded swift trials for those involved in inciting sectarian strife between Muslims and Copts, warning of several foreign institutions aiming at destabilizing Arab countries by utilizing all available means, which will mainly benefit Israel, according to Dr. Helbawy  Dr. Helbawy emphasized the importance of strategic planning as a necessity for development and advancement. He called for activating cooperation agreements between Arab countries to bring an end to the Sykes-Picot agreement which aims to divide Arab countries into 22 small countries.

A post from yesterday reported that the International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS), headed by Global Muslim Brotherhood leader Qaradawi has on Egypt’s Muslims and Copts (Egyptian Christians) to “join hands to abort plots aiming to undermine the country’s national unity. A previous post reported that Qaradawi had joined other elements of the global Brotherhood in suggesting that “foreign hands” could be behind a recent bomb attack on an Egyptian Coptic church. Another post discussed statements by the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood suggesting that Israel might be behind the bomb attack on the Copts. It is a central element of Global Muslim Brotherhood doctrine that Israel, and the US acting on Israel’s behalf, are behind virtually every problem experienced by the Arab and Muslim worlds.

According to his resume, Helbawy is the former official spokesperson of the Muslim Brotherhood in the West, one of the founders of the World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY), and one of the founders of the Muslim Council of Britain, a U.K. umbrella organization that acts as part of the Global Muslim Brotherhood. He is currently the director of the London-based Center for the Study of Terrorism (CFSOT) which purports to be a think-tank. An earlier post discussed Dr. Helbawy’s relocation to Egypt from the UK. Another posts discussed comments by Helbawy in which he praised Osama Bin Laden as a “leader of jihad.”
