Syrian Muslim Brotherhood Leaders Says Israel, Europe and America Support Syrian Regime

The head of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood has accused Israel, Europe and America of providing support for the Syrian government. According to a statement posted on the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood website:

Ali Sadreddine Al-Bayanouni ( the head of Muslim Brotherhood in Syria) called, in an interview with Ikhwanweb, for lifting the lid on the Syrian regime, pointing out that this lid is the one from which the Syrian regime derived its power, stressing that Muslim Brotherhood in Syria demanded to lift it for many years ago, as the Syrian regime is protected by Israel, Europe and America. He accused those countries which provide the lid for the Syrian regime, of double standards, citing what had happened last August of that massacre in which many prisoners of “Sednaya Prison” were killed, when one of the soldiers ran over the Holy Qur’an.

In 1982 Hafez Assad, the father of the current Syrian President, launched massive military action against an uprising by the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood in the city of Hama. As a result of this action, large parts of the city were destroyed resulting in an estimated 20,000 deaths. Numerous Syrian Muslim Brothers fled the country and joined the global jihadist network. The remaining elements of the Syrian Brotherhood leadership in exile do not generally appear to interact with the global Brotherhood networks normally covered in these pages.

A previous post reported that that Syrian opposition leaders were recently sentenced to 30 months in prison as the result of a document signed in 2005 by secular opposition parties and the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood, based in London.
