A video has been posted to the Internet which features numerous law enforcement and community leaders in Southern California paying tribute to an organization known as the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California (ISCSC), a part of the US Muslim Brotherhood. The ISCSC website describes itself as follows:

The Islamic Shura Council is an umbrella organization of Mosques & Muslim organizations serving the Muslims of Southern California. Since 1995, the Council continues to foster the spirit and culture of “working together” at all levels in one of the most diverse and largest Muslim populations in the country. The Shura Council’s membership covers all four counties of Southern California in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside & San Bernardino. It closely liaises with the San Diego community and with the establishment of the Northern California Islamic Council – most of the Muslim communities of the State of California are now able to to remain formally connected, vibrantly engaged and actively learn from each other for the good of all. The Shura Council serves as a valuable resource on Islam and Muslims in Southern California to the leadership of all faiths, public sector agencies and myriad community based organizations. It maintains an ongoing working relationship with a host of social justice organizations and several faith groups to work for the betterment of Southern California. The Shura Council is led by an elected Board of nine prominent leaders of the Southern California Muslim community who meet each month. Their work and progress is reported to the General Assembly each quarter. Together they deal with pertinent issues of common interest and concern to all Muslims.

The ISCSC identifies the the following individuals, all tied to the US Muslim Brotherhood organizations, as members of the current Shura Council Board:

  • Edina Lekovic- MPAC

Also closely associated with the ISCSC is Muzammil Siddiqi, the former Chairman of the organization. Dr. Siddiqi is an important US Muslim Brotherhood leader who has been a past President of the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) and Chairman of its Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA). Also close to the ISCSC was Hassan Hathout, now deceased, who was the brother of Maher Hathout and likely a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt before emigrating to the US.

Earlier posts have reported that the ISCSC often acts in “coalitions” with other US Muslim Brotherhood organizations.

A post from February 2008 discussed the role of the ISCSC in establishing the Muslim Community Forum in conjunciton with the LAPD.
