European Muslim Brotherhood Warns Of Israeli “Atrocities”

The umbrella group for the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe has issued a statement which says that Israeli military action in Gaza threatens to continue the “atrocities” of the last Gaza conflict. According to the statement from the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE):

The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE) expresses its severe condemnation of the brutal aggression launched by the Israeli forces on the Gaza Strip, on Wednesday evening, 14th November, which claimed dozens of martyrs and wounded within a few minutes, including a number of children. The Federation also expresses its grave concern for Palestinian civilians, in light of Israeli threats to continue the bombardment and widen the aggression, particularly since this dangerous development of spilling the blood of Palestinians calls to mind the destructive Israeli aggression on Gaza nearly four years ago, which cannot be allowed to resume or its atrocities repeated. This aggression also comes to emphasise the inherent danger of the extremist tendencies of the Israeli government, which threatens to wage wars, spill blood, and ignite a blaze in the region. This compels the international community to adopt a firm position, before it is too late. The Federation of Islamic Organisations in Europe (FIOE) calls on the European Union, European governments, and all concerned authorities around the world to urgently adopt a tough position that deters the Israeli leadership and army from persisting in this aggression, and causing further wars to flare up.

A post from September reported that a FIOE leader had been appointed as an adviser to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi.

A NEFA Foundation report on the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) describes the organization as follows:

The Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) claims to be an independent organization representing the interests of Muslims in Europe. In reality, the FIOE is an umbrella group that comprises the global Muslim Brotherhood in Europe. Strong links connect FIOE’s leadership central institutions and member organizations to the Brotherhood, as well as to Saudi Arabia. Funding for the FIOE is derived largely from Gulf sources, including some of the ruling families of the United Arab Emirates. The FIOE has strong ties to Hamas and Hamas fund-raising organizations, and some FIOE member organizations show evidence of links with Al-Qaida. The FIOE recently opened a headquarters office in Brussels and has had some success in positioning itself as a “dialog partner” for the EU and other important institutions.

post from February discussed a trip to Gaza by FIOE President Chakib Ben Makhlouf where he visited Hamas facilities, praised Palestinian “martyrs, and visited the grave of Hamas spiritual leader Sheikh Ahmed Yasine who was killed by Israel.
