The official Muslim Brotherhood website has openly acknowledged its relationship with an organization known as the “Islamic Group” (aka al-Jama’a al-Islamiya ) which it called a ” Muslim Brotherhood offshoot in Lebanon.” This statement was part of an article posted on the site in June which reported on the launch of a humanitarian aid campaign to help residents of the northern Nahr Al-Bared camp which has recently seen fighting between the Lebanese army and a radical Islamic group known as Al-Fatah Al Islam. The article carried the text of the announcement from Faisal Moulwi (aka Faisal Mawlawi), the Secretary-General of the Islamic Group According to the article Mawlawi demanded that international aid organizations provide assistance for the camp which was to be sent to the Islamic Da”wa center- Tripoli , (account: 5367 Al-Barak bank, Tripoli Al-Tal, office building).

Faisal Mawlawi is closely associated with Youssef Qaradawi, the most important leader of the global Muslim Brotherhood. He is the the Deputy Chairman of the European Council for Fatwa and Research, the theological body headed by Youssef Qaradawi as well as a trustee of the International Union of Muslim Scholars, also headed by Qaradawi. In addition Mawlawi is a trustee of the Union of Good, a worldwide collection of Islamic charities chaired by Qaradawi that appear to be raising funs for Hamas. In August 2005, Mideast news sources reported that “combatants” from the Islamic Group were fighting alongside Hezbollah in Southern Lebanon and that the group’s support of Hezbollah dated back to the 1980’s. This is the only known instance of armed Muslim Brotherhood units operating openly since the 1940’s.
