FIOE Makes Unannounced Management Changes

A communique of the Federation of Islamic Organizations in Europe (FIOE) indicates that the organization has moved its “seat” to Brussels from its former location in the complex owned and operated by the Islamic Foundation in Markfield, UK. This change was not announced either on the FIOE website or in any known press release and is consistent with a pattern by FIOE of non-transparent operations. FIOE, which purports to be an EU-level umbrella group representing European Muslims, does not seem to be registered with government authorities either in the UK or in Belgium nor was the new headquarters located in online phone records. Translated documents also inidicate that FIOE has replaced its former long-time Chairmen Ahmed Al-Rawi with Chakib Benmakhlouf, a somewhat obscure individual who is the rector of an Islamic school in Sweden. This change also was not announced by the FIOE website or in any known press release.
